You can use a data set template to exchange a data set configuration with another D365 FO environment.

You can use this template to exchange the data set configuration with another D365 FO environment or to easily add it to a data model. If you save data set configurations as template, a template is created with the category 'Data' and the type 'XML'. In the template, the data set configuration is stored in plain XML. The XML contains both the data set general settings and the data set fields. On saving data set configurations to a template, you can: Create a new template: Enter the desired template name in the Template field. Overwrite an existing template: Set the Overwrite template field to 'Yes', and, in the list, select the desired template. Procedure 1. Go to Data modeling studio > Data modeling studio > Data sets. 2. In the list, find and select the desired data sets. 3. On the Action Pane, click Templates. 4. Click Save as template. 5. To create a template, in the Template field, enter the desired template name. In the Template field, type the template name. Note: If you overwrite an existing template, the name of the selected template is entered automatically in the Template field. 6. Select Yes in the Overwrite template field. 7. In the list, find and select the desired template. Note: The name of the selected template is entered automatically in the Template field. 8. Click OK. Download data template Download data template To exchange a data template or transformation with another D365 FO environment, download the template or transformation. You can download several templates and transformations at once. The downloaded templates and transformations are bundled in a compressed (zipped) folder. This folder is saved to your downloads location. In the compressed folder, for each category type, a separate folder is created with the templates and transformations of that category. The type defines file format of the template or transformation file. For example, XML or SQL. Procedure 1. Go to Data modeling studio > Data modeling studio > Data templates and transformations. 2. Click Download. 3. In the list, find and select the desired templates and transformations. 4. Click Download. Click Upload. 3. On the dialog, browse for and select the desired compressed (zipped) folder or single data template or transformation file. Click Upload. Note: If you select a compressed (zipped) folder with several data templates and transformations, all these data templates and transformations are considered for upload. 4. Click the desired action: 'Yes' or 'No'. Apply data set template Apply data set template You can use a data set template to create data sets based on the template or to add fields to existing data sets. If a data set in the template: Does not exist, the data set is created with the settings and fields as defined in the template. Already exists and the template has (several) other fields than the data set, these fields are added to the existing data set. The existing data set fields that are not in the template are not removed from the data set. So, you can only use a template to add fields to a data set and not to remove fields from a data set. Procedure 1. Go to Data modeling studio > Data modeling studio > Data sets. 2. On the Action Pane, click Templates. 3. Click Open template. 4. On the dialog, select the desired option in the Overwrite General fields of existing data set field. 5. In the list, find and select the desired templates. 6. Click OK. Notes If you apply a template that changes an existing data set, you must redeploy the data set. You can also redeploy the related data models. On the Data sets page, you cannot apply a template that is saved from the Data models page. Such a template contains references to data sets and data entities instead of data set configurations. The type defines file format of the template or transformation file. For example, XML or SQL.

To use data templates and transformations from another D365 FO environment, upload the data templates or transformations.

You can upload a:

  • Does not exist, the data set is created with the settings and fields as defined in the template.
  • Already exists and the template has (several) other fields than the data set, these fields are added to the existing data set. The existing data set fields that are not in the template are not removed from the data set. So, you can only use a template to add fields to a data set and not to remove fields from a data set.
